The IWF General Secretary José Quiñones and the IWF CEO Achilleas Tsogas attended this week in Lausanne the “Olympic Movement AI Engagement Forum 2025”, an initiative organised by the IOC and aimed at discussing the AI applications to the world of sports.✨

During the two-day ...seminar, opened by the IOC President Kirsty Coventry, experts in different areas briefed the attendees on how Artificial Intelligence technologies can facilitate the work and procedures in areas such as: Talent Development, Coaching, Training and Performances Analysis, Injury and Illness Management and Prevention, Online Abuse Protection and Mental Wellbeing, Judging and Refereeing, and Anti-Doping.👍🏻

Case studies were also presented, highlighting what some universities in the world are developing and what some stakeholders of the Olympic Movement are using in their internal functioning.👏🏻

“This was a very useful and necessary initiative. We had high-level experts here who could provide many answers to the questions we all have about AI. When new technologies are available, there are always many doubts and some skepticism, but in this case I am sure we can use AI for the benefit of our sport and of our athletes. The IWF has a rich history of 120 years, but we are always keen to learn and move forward – by exchanging ideas with other protagonists of the Olympic Movement, we can definitively progress together in the right direction,” considered Mr Quiñones after the conclusion of the Forum.🏋️‍♀️🏋️‍♂️

IWF visits and donates memorabilia to the ‘Weightlifting Museum’ in Dongguan (CHN)! 👏🏻🇨🇳

The IWF General Secretary José Quiñones and the IWF Executive Board Member Matthew Curtain were recently in Shilong, Dongguan, China, where they had the opportunity to visit and ...donate some souvenirs to the ‘Weightlifting Museum’. The visit coincided with the start of the weightlifting competition in the 15th edition of the National Games, being held in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau. ✨

The IWF delegation was warmly welcomed by the Museum responsible, and the tour started with a cultural moment, whereby Mr Quiñones and Mr Curtain enjoyed the traditional dragon dance and were able to beat the Xinchang drum, an important artifact of the local culture. 🐉

During this reception, the IWF General Secretary donated a costume from the Colombian team – signed by Luis Mosquera (three Olympic participations, and two medals), and Yeison Lopez (silver medallist in Paris 2024), as well as a jacket that was part of the ITO’s casual uniform at the 2025 IWF World Junior and Youth Championships in Lima (PER). Mr Curtain gave a framed British team costume, used at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and signed by the country’s top lifters.💪🏻🏋️‍♀️🏋️‍♂️

On October 31, 2026 the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, the vibrant capital of Senegal, will kick off! 🇸🇳

The ‘1 Year To Go’ celebration is highlighted today by the unveil of Ayo, the official Dakar 2026 mascot.👍🏻

Ayo is a young lion, who symbolises the joy and ...energy of Senegalese youth. Its name means “joy” in Yoruba – a language widely spoken in West Africa – and reflects the spirit of celebration and unity associated with the Games.

Ayo wears a traditional Fulani Tingandé hat, representing wisdom, dignity and a connection to rural life.

Weightlifting will part of the Engagement Programme at these Games and the IWF will be happy and honoured to show the beauty and attractiveness of our Sport to the youth of the world!!! 💪🏻🏋️‍♀️🏋️‍♂️

The 2025 IWF World Championships in Forde (NOR) provided an outstanding harvest of 40 World Records!✨👏🏻

In the women’s competition, 17 global marks were improved, and the most prolific lifter was Suk RI (PRK), with six new WR. Five female stars set those WR, all in the senior age... group.🏋️‍♀️👏🏻

Among men, Yueji HE (CHN) was the most successful athlete in Forde, with four new World Records. In total, 15 male competitors set 23 new global bests (19 senior, and four in the juniors).🏋️‍♂️👍🏻

The 2025 edition of the IWF World Championships, held from October 2-11 in Forde (NOR) was a display of new talents, but also a confirmation of credentials for many weightlifting Stars!✨

One interesting statistic relates with the age gap between medallists in Norway. Who were the oldest ...and youngest lifters on the podium? 🥇🥈🥉

Among women, it all happened in the +86kg category: born on March 19, 2007 Linhan ZHU 🇨🇳 got the bronze in the Snatch, with a 116kg lift. Almost 17 years older, Mary THEISEN LAPPEN (🇺🇸 November 3, 1990) was the oldest on the podium, with a third place both in Clean & Jerk (154kg) and Total (269kg).🏋️‍♀️👏🏻

In the men’s competition, the youngest medallist of the Championships also came from 🇨🇳 – Hao YUAN (June 21, 2006) earned silver in the Snatch portion of the 60kg category, lifting 132kg. In the 65kg category, Eko Yuli IRAWAN 🇮🇩, at 36 (July 24, 1989), added another medal to his impressive roll of honour – this time, bronze in Snatch (137kg).🏋️‍♂️👍🏻
